Incorporating your nonprofit organization gives you all the benefits a corporation receives, but then you must go through the same filing process. To form a nonprofit corporation, you must file articles of incorporation for nonprofit organizations.
Sometimes these documents may be called a certificate of incorporation or articles of organizations. You can find the articles of incorporation for nonprofits at your Secretary of State’s office. Keep in mind that this is not a free process. You’ll have to pay a filing fee, which varies from $30 to $300 depending on your state, according to FindLaw.
Like companies, you’ll be required to include pertinent information such as the firm’s name, street address, agent for service of process, and the amount and type of stock issued. The articles of incorporation for nonprofits must also contain your statement of purpose, which is why your nonprofit corporation is formed.
